China allows tour groups from ASEAN countries to visit Xishuangbanna in southwestern Yunnan Province, free of visa, for up to six days, the National Immigration Administration announced on Monday.
Starting from February 10, tourist groups from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia will be eligible for this visa-free policy. They can enter and exit as groups through Xishuangbanna Gasa International Airport, Mohan Railway, or the Mohan Highway, according to the announcement.
Tourists will be required to stay within Xishuangbanna’s administrative region, with a maximum stay of six days, the administration clarified.
This new policy is part of China’s broader efforts to expand its opening-up in an organized manner and strengthen Yunnan’s position as a regional hub for South and Southeast Asia, an official from the administration stated. It is expected to boost tourism development in Southwest China, promote cultural exchanges, and enhance China-ASEAN strategic cooperation.
Looking ahead, the National Immigration Administration will continue advancing immigration management reforms to attract more international visitors and business travelers, stimulate inbound tourism, and support China’s wider opening-up and economic growth, the official added.
