The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has recently unveiled the first batch of 235 national excellent smart factories, with two companies from Changzhou earning a prestigious spot: NR Electric and Jiangsu Guomao Reducer.
Jiangsu Guomao Reducer, a pioneer in high-end general and specialized reducers, has been a key player in its industry for over 30 years. As a leading enterprise in the provincial "1650" industrial system (which includes 16 advanced manufacturing clusters and 50 key industrial chains) and a cornerstone of the follow-up initiative, the company has invested 865 million yuan to develop a state-of-the-art smart factory. This facility employs an advanced digital management system, enabling comprehensive control over the entire production process—from raw material intake to final product delivery. The factory also features smart manufacturing capabilities, including remote equipment maintenance and intelligent production scheduling. Additionally, the company has integrated multiple subsystems into the Guomao Network Collaborative Platform, allowing for full lifecycle management of its products. With an annual output of around 700,000 units, Guomao’s gear reducers hold a commanding market share, ranking first in China and second globally.
NR Electric, on the other hand, has adopted a data-driven approach using customized domestic tools to rapidly adapt its products. The company has also integrated digital twin technology for virtual verification and streamlined production processes to foster efficient collaboration between design and manufacturing teams.
In 2024, the MIIT, along with other key national bodies such as the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the National Data Bureau, launched a multi-phase program to cultivate smart factories. This initiative is structured across four levels—basic, advanced, excellent, and pilot—and includes the selection process for excellent factories.
Excellent smart factories are distinguished by their industry-leading capabilities, including seamless integration of design, production, and operational data, smart equipment management, real-time production process optimization, and comprehensive management of product lifecycles and supply chains. These factories are expected to set new benchmarks, driving innovation and industry-wide transformation.
